The Royal Canadian Mint is responding to consumer demand for transparency in the provenance of precious metals by introducing a gold bullion coin that is sourced entirely from a single mine. The 2022 $50 1 oz. 99.99% Pure Gold Maple Leaf Single-Sourced Mine bullion coin is made from gold extracted by Agnico Eagle at its Meliadine Mine in Nunavut, Canada, and refined by the Mint using a strict segregation protocol. This unique coin will soon be available through the Mint’s network of official bullion distributors.
“The Royal Canadian Mint is known for its market-leading purity and security in its bullion products, and as an LBMA-accredited Good Delivery refiner, we are also dedicated to responsibly sourcing gold and silver,” said Marie Lemay, President and CEO of the Royal Canadian Mint. “By releasing a coin made of gold sourced entirely from Agnico Eagle’s Meliadine mine, we are demonstrating our commitment to offering bullion with the highest possible integrity and ensuring it comes from a single Canadian mine.”
The reverse of the coin features a detailed engraving of a Sugar Maple leaf by Walter Ott, which is surrounded by a series of precisely machined radial lines. Beneath the leaf is a micro-engraved maple leaf-shaped security mark with the engraving “22” to indicate the coin’s year of issue. This security feature is only visible under magnification. Next to the security mark is a privy mark of a hand holding a globe, symbolizing the single-source provenance of the coin’s 99.99% pure gold. The coin is also protected by Bullion DNATM technology.
The coin is packaged in credit card-style packaging with a certificate of purity and authenticity signed by the Mint’s Chief Assayer. Canada-based Agnico Eagle, which has been responsibly developing mineral resources in Nunavut for over 13 years, is the largest miner of Canadian gold and the third-largest gold producer in the world.
